T.1441 May 1847 (Letter circular) Lord de
Ros to Mrs Ann Crea
Lord de Ros desires to return his best
thanks to those of his Tenantry, who in a time of scarcity and
distress beyond all example, have come forward with their half-years
Rent, to support him against difficulties which he could not
otherwise have met. The endeavours he has felt it his duty to make in
helping some of his Tennants, by an allowance for land under Potato
Crop, and advances for Seed Corn, and in relieving the most destitute
by employment and by distribution of food, have obliged him to become
a borrower, at heavy interest, and have caused him serious
embarrassment but he is well aware it would have been much worse had
not so many of his Tenants supported him in a most honourable manner.
Lord de Ros begs they will therefore accept his sincere thanks and
hearty wishes that better times may reward the honesty they have
shown, and the spirit and industry with which they continue to bear
up against their hardships and distresses.
