Join the Cree Family History Network
The Cree Family History Network is an informal group of people who are interested in the surname Cree.
You are welcome to join this Network. There is no charge. You will then be able to access a range of community web-based facilities.
In addition to the long-standing Cree Surname web site, www.cree.name, which is visible to all, there are now several Internet-based facilities for members of the Cree Family History Network:
- Members can access and use the Cree Family History Network web site. This new site, created and managed by Trevor Cree, enables anyone interested in Cree family history to contact and exchange information with other members of the network.
- The Cree Family History Network web site includes several Forums where you can post details of the your own Cree family history, read the postings of others, put questions and explain problems, which will hopefully lead to advice from other members in reply.
- Members can send messages to any other member in privacy and without their email address being on display using the Message Service of the Cree Family History Network.
- Members can contact the main co-ordinators and researchers involved in research into Cree family history,
- Members can read the blogs of other members of the Cree Family History Network and write their own blogs about their Cree family history.
- Members can also publish, edit and create articles relating to Cree family history on the CREEwiki, the Family History section of the Cree Surname web site,
- Another facility available to anyone interested in Cree ancestry is the Cree DNA Project administered by Gary Maher.
- The Cree Mailing List (hosted at rootsweb.com) which has a membership of 44 members will continue in operation, but it is hoped that all those members will also join the Cree Family History Network as we hope that this will be the main focus for communication for everyone interested in Cree surname research and family history.
There will be no charge for membership of the Cree Family History Network.
If you wish to join the Cree Family History Network please "Sign up" on the Cree Family History Network web site.

For some years this Cree Surname web site at www.cree.name, managed by Mike Spathaky, has been the main repository of Cree family history information world-wide. It is intended and hoped that this will continue indefinitely.
Trevor Cree, who has for many years been an active Cree researcher is now in the process of expanding the range of facilities which complement the Cree Surname web site with the aim of providing interactive, community web-based facilities which:
- enable members to publish their own findings, questions and knowledge of Cree family history to other members,
- allow members to contact each other directly if they wish to do so,
- encourage interaction between members to flourish without necessarily involving the main co-ordinators.
There is also a Cree DNA Project with its own web site, administered by Gary Maher, and a Cree Mailing List hosted by Rootsweb.com and administered by Mike Spathaky.
From about 1990 to 1999 there was also a flourishing membership organisation, the Cree Family History Society, and a newsletter, CREE NEWS, was mailed twice-yearly to members. This created a feeling of belonging amongst members, and the provision of a membership list provided a means for members to contact each other about thier mutual interests in Cree ancestry.
We hope that this spirit of belonging and collaboratioin can be rekindled through the Cree Family History Network.
