Clyde Elliot Cree Huntingdon 'Globe' - February 28, 1901
Clyde E. Cree, son of Al Cree of Smithfield, a well known Pennsylvania Railroad brakeman of this place, was almost instantly killed at Tyrone on Monday afternoon. He was standing on the bumper of a car which was being shifted upon a siding and realizing that the cars were gaining speed, and thinking that the engine was coupled to them, he gave the engineer a signal to stop. The engineer, seeing that the cars were about to collide with other cars that were standing at the siding, whistled down brakes, but before they could be stopped, the front end of one was badly wrecked, Mr. Cree being caught in the wreckage. A fellow brakeman on the same car, seeing the dangerous position that they were in, jumped and escaped injury. The injured man lived about one hour after the accident. The remains were brought to this place on the Monday evening 'Philadelphia Express' and were taken to the undertaking establishment of Philip Brown & Sons where they were prepared for burial, after which they were taken to his home on Mifflin Street near Twelfth.
The deceased was about 23 years of age and was a trusted employee of the company. He was a kind husband and a loving father and besides a wife and little son, he is survived by his parents and several brothers and sisters. One week ago today, he received injuries about his body at Lewistown by being struck by a draft of cars.
The deceased was a member of Sterling Council No. 449, Jr. O.W.A.M., which organization attended the funeral in a body. The funeral took place at his late residence yesterday afternoon with interment being made in the Riverview cemetery.
