It seems likely that at some time after April 1871 Charlotte was taken in by her uncle and aunt, Frank (Francis) and Mary Cree, who lived at Farndon, a village just outside Newark, following the death of Charlotte's mother Thirza in about August of that year. Her father had died when Charlotte was only one year old, so she would not even remember him.

It may be for this reason that she gave her father's name as Frank Cree at her marriage in 1880. Frank had also passed away by then, but this would clear the way for Frank's widow Mary to give the necessary permission to marry, Charlotte being under 21.³

In December 1880 Charlotte Cree was living in 19 Balderton Gate, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England.⁴

Charlotte Cree married Joseph Johnson, son of Joseph Johnson, on 26 December 1880 in the Independent Chapel, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England. The certificate gives Charlotte's age as 20 and Joseph's as 22. Her father's name was recorded as Frank Cree, labourer (not shown as deceased). Joseph's was shown as a tailor. They were to have eleven daughters.

An anonymous email dated 30 January 2011 stated, "Thirza Cree's maiden name was Clapham. She was a widow when she married John Cree 10/6/1855 [6 Oct] and her last name at that time was Pressgrave."

P Schatz wrote, "I was in touch a number of years ago (1984) with June Moffat who was the daughter of Florence Campbell (Cree-Johnson). She named the Johnson children as follows (married names) Victoria Strangways, Elsie Ashley, Florence Campbell, Nell Tracy, Ethel Carson, Edith White, Ann J Rogers, Agnes Sinclair and a Charlotte but no last name... As this list is only for 9 children rather than 11, I can only assume that two must have passed away."^5,6,7

Charlotte Cree was a "tailor's wife" on 3 April 1881.⁸

C 1892 Charlotte Cree and Joseph Johnson moved from Nottinghamshire and settled at Toronto, Ontario, Canada.²

On 1 June 1911 Charlotte Cree and Joseph Johnson were living in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada.¹⁰

Charlotte Cree died in Owen Sound, Ontario.

Her father John Cree died c November 1863 in Hull, Yorkshire, England.¹ Ellen Cree was born on 11 March 1864 in Clarks Yard, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England. Her father John Cree is shown as deceased. Under the name of mother is the following top to bottom - Thirza Cree, Late, Presgrave, formerly Clapham.^2,3 She was the daughter of John Cree and Thirza Clapham.

Her mother Thirza Clapham died on 19 July 1869 in Lenter Building, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England.^4,5

On 2 April 1871 Ellen Cree and Charlotte Cree were living in the house of Ann Moody, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England. Judy O'Day wrote "I think though that [Charlotte] is on the 1871 census with a person named Ann Moody, as a boarder. She is 8 and her sister Ellen is 7."⁶

On 3 April 1881 Ellen Cree was living in Farndon, Nottinghamshire, England. She was a general domestic servant in the house of her uncle, William Tow, a cottager, and his wife Elizabeth.⁷

Ellen Cree married Frederick Burkitt on 29 November 1884 in Nottingham Reg Dist, Nottinghamshire, England.^8,9

Her daughter Lily Parker Burkitt was born on 22 August 1885 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England.^9,10

Ellen Cree died on 31 March 1888 in the General Hospital, Nottingham Park, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England. The informant was Frederick Burkitt. Judy O'Day wrote, "Ellen, Charlotte's sister died in 1888 from typhoid in England."

Charles Cree was born c May 1866. His mother Thirza Cree had been widowed in 1863 and so her late husband John Cree could not be Charles's father.¹ He was the son of Thirza Clapham.

Francis Cree was baptised on 23 March 1808 in Farndon, Nottinghamshire, England.¹ He was the son of Joshua Cree and Sarah Hand.

Francis Cree married Mary King on 5 May 1832 in Farndon, Nottinghamshire. The ceremony was witnessed by Elizabeth Cree. Francis signed with his mark.¹

His daughter Charlotte Cree was baptised on 16 March 1843 in Farndon, Nottinghamshire; It appears that her birth was registered in the June quarter of 1845.^1,3

His father Joshua Cree died on 22 April 1844 in Queen Street, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England.⁴

His son John Cree was baptised on 22 June 1850 in Farndon, Nottinghamshire.¹

On 30 March 1851 Francis Cree and Mary King were living in Farndon, Nottinghamshire, along with William Cree, Elizabeth Cree, Watkin Cree, Charlotte Cree and John Cree. Francis was an "Ag lab."⁵
