Isabella Ellen McMahon

Female, CreeID#6751, (between 1811 and 1814 - before November 1893)
ChartsLine 5. The County Clare line
Isabella Ellen McMahon was born between 1811 and 1814 in Ireland.1 She was the daughter of James McMahon and Isabella Edmonds.

On 7 June 1841, Isabella Ellen McMahon was also known as Isabel McMahon.

On 7 June 1841 Isabella Ellen McMahon was living in the household of Charles Cowle and Isabella Edmonds in Balagaue, Andreas, Isle of Man, along with Mary Ann Cowle, Eliza Cowle, Charles Hamilton Edmonds Cowle, Edward Edmonds Cowle and Jane Rachael McMahon. Mary Ann was shown as Margaret, but at 20 years old she must be the same. Ages however seem to have been rounded down to the next 5 years. All were born in the Isle of Man except Isabella Cowle and her daughter Isabel McMahon, who were born in Ireland. Missing from the household were James Terence McMahon and Jane Rachael McMahon who were now about 30 years old.2

On 30 March 1851 Isabella Ellen McMahon was living in the household of Edward Edmonds Cowle in Parliament Street, Andreas, Isle of Man. Edward was aged 26, unmarried, and a "Draper employing 3 men/4 boys." Isabella was recorded as his sister, aged 34 and an annuitant. We think she was his step-sister. She was also shown as born Andreas but this is doubtful.3

Isabella Ellen McMahon died before November 1893.4

A reredos in the chancel of the Parish Church, Andreas, Isle of Man, was erected by Eliza Cowle in November 1893 in memory of her parents Charles Cowle and Isabella Edmonds and of her brothers and sisters, including James Terence McMahon, Edward Edmonds Cowle, Jane Rachael McMahon, Mary Ann Cowle and Eliza Cowle. This is clear evidence that all those named had died by November 1893 and that Eliza was then still alive.5
