Some genealogies show a marriage to a Margaret Mitchell in 1692 in Balbardie, Fife. I can find no reliable record of such a marriage. It has therefore to be doubted.
Dunbarny is the most convenient parish church to Mathew's estate of Culfargy and the church where many family marriages had taken place. This looks to me as much more likely, even though it renders illegitimate the eldest son Alexander, the much respected 3rd Laird of Culfargy. One can see the motivation for such a religious family to create confusion about Alexander's parentage. - [S419] Website, Paterson Family Tree http://paterson.familytreeguide.com/getperson.php

Unknown Cree (of Cramond)
Male, CreeID#8108
The four assumed children of this unknown father all married between 1675 and 1680. A guess would be that Unknown Cree (of Cramond) married about 30 years earlier, say between 1645 and 1650. He could therefore be the "Mr John Crie" who paid Hearth Tax for two hearths as recorded in the West Lothian Heart Tax returns.1
His daughter Catherine Cree was born c 1658?
