(---) Cree was the son of James Crie and Margaret Keir.
This unknown person has been entered in the Database as a link between Mathew Cree and his grandfather James Crie of Saline. It is fairly clear that Mathew was related to the other first generation Crees in Dunfermline, namely the brothers Mathew and James as all three settled in Dunfermline and all three were connected to the Associated Church there. The most likely scenario is that Mathew's father was a brother of Mathew and James.

Charts | Line 17. The Perth glovers line Chart 9344 Dunfermline (1) |
Mathew Cree was born in 1837 or 1838 in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland.1 He was the son of John Cree and Jane Shields.
On 30 March 1851 Mathew Cree was living in the household of John Cree and Euphemia Anderson in Townhill Colliery, Townhill, Fife, Scotland, along with Henry Cree, Euphemia Cree, John Cree, David Cree, Catherine Cree, Anne Cree, James Cree and Helen Cree. John was now 37 and a coal miner and Euphemia was also 37. Mathew and Henry were also coal miners, both aged 13. Mathew Cree married Mary Murray, daughter of John Murray and Margaret McComish. No record of the marriage has been found although census records and both their death records state that they were married.4
On 3 April 1881 Mathew Cree and Mary Murray were living in Parkhall, Midcalder, Midlothian, Scotland. Mathew was 41 and Mary was shown in the Ancestry transciption as 50. This must be an error for 30.5
On 5 April 1891 Mathew Cree and Mary Murray were living in Lathalmond, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. Mathew was aged 53 and Mary 42. No occupation was shown for Mathew on the Ancestry transcription. Mary was shown as an "Out Door Worker." I suspect this may be an error and it was Mathew who was the outdoor worker.6
On 31 March 1901 Mathew Cree and Mary Murray were living in Off Main Road (lane), Carnock, Fife, Scotland. Mathew was a stonebreaker aged 63 and Mary was 55.7
His wife Mary Murray died on 12 March 1907 in Carnock, Fife, Scotland.8
Mathew Cree died on 6 March 1910 in the Poorhouse, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. The informant was George Forfar Cree. He was aged 72.9
