On 3 April 1881 Joanna Cree was living in the household of Thomas Downs and Ellen Cree in 114 Tipton Road, Tividale, Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, England, along with John Cree, William Cree, Lizzie Cree, Thomas Downs, Sarah Downs (married name) and Ellen Downs. Thomas Downs was a puddler aged 44. His wife Ellen was aged 50 and born in Scotland as was her daughter Joanna Downs aged 32. Clearly Joanna is too old to be Thomas's daughter. John, William and Lizzie were aged 10, 7 and 3 respectively, shown as Thomas's children and named Downs. They were born in Rowley Regis. Also present were Thomas's son Thomas aged 24 (son of Thomas), a furnace labourer born in Scotland and his wife Sarah aged 22 who was born in Rowley Regis. Their daughter Ellen was one year old.15
Joanna Cree died c May 1886 in Dudley Reg Dist, Staffordshire, England.16
On 30 March 1851 Joanna Cree was living in the household of Mary Hutchison in New Row, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, along with John Cree, Ellen Cree, Mary Cree and Isabella Cree. Mary was aged 50 and her occupation was "house duties." John aged 23 was a hand-loom damask weaver as were Hellen (sic), 21, Mary, 18, and Esabella, 17. John aged 2 was described as Mary's granddaugher (sic). It is now thought that "granddaugher" was correct and that the name was actually Joanna, not John, and that ahse was an illegitimate daughter of Hellen.3,4
On 7 April 1861 Joanna Cree was living in the household of Thomas Downs and Ellen Cree in Tividale, Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, England, along with Thomas Downs and John Downs. Thomas was a shingler aged 25 born in Rowley, Ellen was 30 and born in Dunfermline. Their sons Thomas and John were aged 4 and 2, Thomas being born in Dunfermline and John in Rowley. Joanna Downs was shown as Thomas's daughter but her age was not recorded.5 Joanna Cree and Thomas Downs were partners from 1870. Thomas Downs was step-father of Joanna Cree but also the father of her four children.
Her son John Cree was born on 17 January 1871 in Tividale, Rowley Regis, Staffordshire.6,7
Her son William Cree was born c August 1873 in Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, England.8
Her daughter Lizzie Cree was born on 12 June 1877 in 114 Tipton Road, Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, England.9,10,11,12

I believe that the grand daughter is the correct piece of information and the name should be Joanna. I think Joanna was the illegitimate daughter of Hellen Cree (#9384). Hellen or Ellen later married Thomas Downie (Downes) in 1854. On the 1881 English census, there is a Jelama Downes aged 32 listed as their daughter - I believe this is Joanna Cree and is Hellen/Ellen's daughter and not Thomas's (partly because it was after their marriage and also because he would have only been 12 years old at the time of Joanna's birth. Both Hellen/Ellen and Jelama/Joanna are listed as being born in Dunfermline."

Mathew Cree was born in 1836 or 1837.1 He was the son of Catharine Cree.
On 6 June 1841 Mathew Cree was living in the household of Euphemia Love in Milesmark, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, along with Catharine Cree, James Wilson, Hariot Wilson and Andrew McGregor. Euphemia Wilson, as she is now called, appears to have been widowed a second time. She is now aged 50 (rounded figure) and a washerwoman. We have assumed that Mathew, aged 7, is actually Matthew McGregor, Catherine's son shown on the 1851 Census as aged 17.1
