She was 21, a spinster of Heaton Norris, daughter of James Cree, shoemaker. John Stokes signed his name but Phoeby signed with her mark. Witnesses were Hartley Dixon his X mark; Eliza Boies her X mark.9

If Frank and Tom went to work for the Cartwrights (big landowners in Walesby at that time) or perhaps for the Johnson family at Otby. I talked to mum after getting your letter and she says that her father, Letty's baby, was born at Sidings Farm just outside of Walesby before Letty went to Manchester to be a housekeeper, so it looks like the father was someone from round there, no one knows who! There were only two adjoning cottages up Otby Lane, not three."
