Och Laddie, it's just a wee walk!
It is marvellous how odd phrases that people say ring down through the years to tell us something of their character. I surmised in Cree News 10 that Jane (McKillop) Cree who died in 1902 at Wallsend, Tyneside, aged 100, might have passed on genes for long life to her descendants, in view of the ages of Agnes Cree Deane and her brothers and sisters. Agnes's cousin Elizabeth Anne Johnson has written to say that their grandfather Archibald Cree lived to be 94 and was happily playing 18 holes of golf at 85. She also tells the story that when Jane reached the age of 99, Archie's sons gave him a trip to England [sic] to see her. After worship at the local chapel, he was for calling a taxi home, but his 99-year-old mother said "Och Laddie, it is just a wee walk" And they walked!15

On 9 August 1901 Jane McKillop was living in Hayocks Farm, Stevenston, Ayrshire, Scotland. On or about 9 August 1901 she entered her 100th year.16

On 8 June 1902 Jane McKillop was living in Hayocks Farm, Stevenston, Ayrshire.17
