William was a Principal Court Officer of Customs, John was a technical teacher and William junior was a railway clerk. All were Presbyterians.1

Agnes Cree married William Thomson on 14 September 1813 in Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The parochial register has 4 Sep 1813 as the date when they "gave up their names for proclamation."2,3,4

Her father Mathew Cree died on 7 July 1832. Agnes Cree was an executrix of the will of Matthew Cree on 8 July 1857 in Chester, Cheshire, England; Matthew wrote his will on 16 April 1857. The executors were Arthur Banks and Agnes Thomson, widow, sister of the deceased. The estate was valued at "under £400."5

Agnes Cree died on 6 September 1872 in Bank Street, Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland. The informant was Lockhart Noble Cree. She was aged 93.1 Agnes Cree's and Andrew Cree sen's names are inscribed, together with those of Andrew Cree, on a memorial in St Mary's Churchyard, Biggar, Lanarkshire, Scotland. The inscription on lair 80 reads: "And. Cree junr engineer late of Pinang East India who died Biggar 3 September 18(6)1 aged 42 yrs; And. Cree sen late of excise died Biggar 23 May 1857 aged 71 yrs, buried old family burying ground, Agnes Cree relict of Wm Thomson officer of excise who died 6 September 1872 aged 93 yrs."6

He received gold and silver medals for essays on the subject from the Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, and the London Society of Arts. His Essays in Pruning were afterwards published in a collected form. He died 17th June 1860, in his 78th year."

On 3 April 1881 Hugh Russell Cree was living in the household of Gavin Cree and Marion Russell in Kirkstyle, Biggar, Lanarkshire, Scotland, along with Helen Russell Cree, Catherine Moffat Cree, Marion Cree and John Matthew Cree. Gavin was aged 56 and a bread van driver.1

On 5 April 1891 Hugh Russell Cree was living in the household of Gavin Cree in Hope Square, Biggar, Lanarkshire, Scotland, along with Mary Cree, Marion Cree, John Matthew Cree, Ann Robb Cree, Christina Rough and Ellen Rough. Gavin was aged 66 and a baker's vanman and Marion was 55. Their daughter Mary was a dressmaker aged 26, Marion was 17, Hugh was 14 anmd a joiner's apprentice and John was a scholar age 10. The granchildren were Christina aged 8, Ellen, 6, Annie, 3, and James, 1.2 When Gavin Cree died on 16 August 1895 in Culter, Lanarkshire, Scotland, Hugh Russell Cree was the informant; He was aged 70 and a "vanman."3

On 16 August 1895 Hugh Russell Cree was living in Hope Square, Biggar, Lanarkshire.4

His mother Marion Russell died in 1897.

On 31 March 1901 Hugh Russell Cree was living in the household of Mary Cree in 184 Battlefield Road, Cathcart, Renfrewshire, Scotland, along with Helen Russell Cree, Marion Cree, John Matthew Cree and Jemima Cree. Mary was 36 years old and a dressmaker and her sister Helen was a telephonist aged 33. Her sister Minnie must be Marion, aged 27. Her brothers were Hugh, aged 24 and a joiner, and John aged 20, a printer compositor. Also present and described as Mary's nieces were Christina, a telephonist aged 27, Jemima, 5 and Jeanie aged 1. Christina (born Biggar) and Jeanie (born Glasgow) have not yet been identified despite having the surname Cree.5

Hugh Russell Cree married Jane McKinlay Wilson in July 1902 in Avondale, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

His daughter May Cree was born in 1904.
