All music lovers in the district should take an opportunity to be present at the Parramatta Town Hall next Saturday to hear Miss Vera Cree sing for the last time in Australia. This talented young Sydney contralto has had honors showered on her, gaining the only scholarship awarded in Australia this year by the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music. At her farewell concert in the Town Hall, Sydney, last month, scenes of enthusiasm prevailed, and it was acknowledged that it was the most brilliant success of its kind held in Sydney for years. A splendid programme will be given. Miss Cree will sing several of her favorite solos. Miss Gladys Bourke, the Sydney soprano, who is well known in Parramatta; Mr. Sid. McDonald, Sydney's popular tenor; Mr. Warwick McKenzle, the successful violinist, who has recently toured Australia; and the well known Scotch comedians, Mr. Ad Cree and Miss Jenny Cree, will add to the enjoyment of the programme. The prices are
2s and 1s. Miss Cree leaves for London a week later by the R.M.S. Molwa with the best wishes of all who know her."

Spliced or Knotted - Three Cree-Leslie Marriages in Scotland

Three marriages took place in which all six partners were descendants of either of two couples. The first couple was John Leslie and Helen Johnstone and the other was James Cree and Christian Graham. The Leslies had two sons John and David Leslie while the Crees had children named David and Janet Cree (among others).

The first Cree-Leslie marriage was between John Leslie (the son) and Janet Cree some time before 1807. They had a son who was a third John Leslie. Meanwhile John's brother, David Leslie, had a daughter Mary Leslie while Janet's brother, David Cree, had children James and Grace Cree. I hope you're following this...

In April 1855 Mary Leslie married James Cree, nephew of her father's sister-in-law Janet Cree; a few days later Mary's new sister-in-law, Grace Cree, (who was also, of course, niece of her father's sister-in-law, Janet Cree), married her own first cousin John Leslie (the third) who was also Mary's first cousin.

Got that?

His daughter Janet Cree was born on 19 June 1856 in 133 Crown Street, Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Scotland.9

His son Charles Cree was born on 22 April 1858 in 133 Crown Street, Glasgow.11

On 29 September 1860 James Cree and Mary Leslie were living in 4 Abbotsford Place, Glasgow, Scotland. James was a power loom cloth manufacturer.12

His son Andrew Cree was born on 29 September 1860 in 4 Abbotsford Place, Glasgow.13

His mother Mary McLeod died in 1863.14

James Cree was a power loom cloth manufacturer on 18 August 1863.15

James Cree was a manufacturer on 22 August 1866.16

James Cree was a cotton manufacturer on 25 June 1872.17

James Cree was a weaving manufacturer on 12 February 1921.19

Got that?
