Alexander Crie

Charts | Line 10b. The Perth maltmen line |
Alexander Crie was born c 1690?. This is an estimate based only on his marriage date. He was the son of Alexander Crie.
On 17 December 1699 Alexander Crie and Alexander Crie were living in Cala-fountain, Forteviot, Perthshire, Scotland, along with Thomas Crie. Callarfountain is shown on the current 1:25000 scale OS map at Grid Ref 102208 with Hilton Hill a few hundred metres to its NW. It is little more than 2 km from the centre of Perth and in Forgandenny parish but was formerly a detached part of Forteviot parish. Groome's Gazetteer of Scotland says, under Forgandenny, "In 1891 the Boundary Commissioners transferred to Forgandenny parish the Hilton detached part." Under Forteviot, Groome mentions, "the Hilton section, immediately W of Craigend village, and 2 miles ENE of the main body [of Forteviot...]". What is important for us if that this Hilton portion is N of the River Earn with no crossing place for some distance and so in effect detached from both Forteviot and Forgandenny. It is in fact just along the road from Aberdalgie parish.1
Alexander Crie married Janet Black on 13 August 1713 in Tibbermore, Perthshire, Scotland.2
His son Alexander Cree was baptised on 20 December 1713 in Forteviot, Perthshire, Scotland.

Mary McMunn
Female, CreeID#2494, (1828 - 1888)
Charts | Line 17. The Perth glovers line Chart 1444 Saline (1) Chart 1792 Kirkintilloch |
Mary McMunn was born in 1828 in Ireland.1,2,3
In 1849, Mary McMunn was also known as Mary McMinn.
Mary McMunn married Archibald Crie, son of Archibald Crie and Mary Calderwood, on 11 May 1849 in Riccarton, Ayrshire, Scotland.
Her son Archibald Cree was born in 1850 in Riccarton, Ayrshire.4,2,3
Her daughter Mary Cree was born in 1851 or 1852 in Abington, Lanarkshire, Scotland.5
Her daughter Margaret Cree was born in 1851 or 1852.6
On 30 March 1851 Mary McMunn and Archibald Crie were living in Symington, Ayrshire, Scotland, along with Archibald Cree. Archibald senior was a labourer. He and Mary were both aged 22. Their son Archibald was one year old.3
Her daughter Agnes Cree was born on 9 February 1856 in Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland.7,8
Her daughter Janet Seymour M Cree was born on 8 February 1858 in Bo'ness, West Lothian, Scotland.
Her son James Cree was born on 11 March 1860 in Newtown, Bo'ness, West Lothian, Scotland.9,5,10
On 7 April 1861 Mary McMunn and Archibald Crie were living in 33 Newtown, Boness, West Lothian, Scotland, along with Archibald Cree, Mary Cree, Agnes Cree and James Cree. Archibald was an ironstone miner and was shown as born at Kilmarnock. The evidence points to a very slapdash enumerator, possible one who was hard of hearing, and a careless transcriber too. The surname was transcribed as "Cora" although the original shows it as Cree. Archibald and Mary's son Archibald was shown as born at "Bickerton." There is no such place as far as I know and it would seem to be a mishearing of Riccarton.
Her daughter Jane Gardner Cree was born on 18 February 1862 in Bo'ness, West Lothian.7
Her son William McMunn Cree was born on 21 February 1864 in Twechar, Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.2
Her son Joseph Cree was born on 27 January 1866 in Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.7,2,11
Her son Henry Crie was born on 11 April 1868 in Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire.7,12
Her daughter Annie McIntyre Cree was born on 4 October 1870 in Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire.2,13
Her daughter Elizabeth Cree was born on 16 August 1874 in Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire.2,14
Her daughter Mary McMinn Cree was born on 21 February 1875 in Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire.
On 3 April 1881 Mary McMunn and Archibald Crie were living in 2 Miner's Row, Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire, Scotland, along with Jane Gardner Cree, William McMunn Cree, Joseph Cree, Annie McIntyre Cree, Elizabeth Cree, Mary McMinn Cree and John S McMunn. Archibald was a coal miner aged 52. His daughter Jane was 19 and an agricutural labourer; William, 17, and Joseph, 15, were also coal miners. Annie was 10 and Elizabeth 6. Mary's nephew John S McMinn aged 19, was also a coal miner.15
