Archibald Cree
Male, CreeID#2559, (1850 - 1892)
Charts | Line 17. The Perth glovers line Chart 1792 Kirkintilloch |
Archibald Cree was born in 1850 in Riccarton, Ayrshire, Scotland.1,2,3 He was the son of Archibald Crie and Mary McMunn.
On 30 March 1851 Archibald Cree was living in the household of Archibald Crie and Mary McMunn in Symington, Ayrshire, Scotland. Archibald senior was a labourer. He and Mary were both aged 22. Their son Archibald was one year old.3
On 7 April 1861 Archibald Cree was living in the household of Archibald Crie and Mary McMunn in 33 Newtown, Boness, West Lothian, Scotland, along with Mary Cree, Agnes Cree and James Cree. Archibald was an ironstone miner and was shown as born at Kilmarnock. The evidence points to a very slapdash enumerator, possible one who was hard of hearing, and a careless transcriber too. The surname was transcribed as "Cora" although the original shows it as Cree. Archibald and Mary's son Archibald was shown as born at "Bickerton." There is no such place as far as I know and it would seem to be a mishearing of Riccarton.
Archibald Cree was a iron miner on 10 February 1871 in Twechar, Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.4
Archibald Cree married Ann McKenzie, daughter of John McKenzie and Ann Reilly, on 10 February 1871 in the Free Church of Scotland, Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Archibald was 20 and Ann 18; they both signed with a mark.5
His daughter Jane Cree was born in October 1880.6

Both William and Martha were 19 years old. Martha signed with her mark. It was a Free Church wedding.2,9,10

Archibald Cree married Janet Seymour Munro Jarvie, daughter of George Barr Jarvie and Agnes Pollock, on 11 April 1884 in Main Street, Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Archibald was 34 years old and a widower. Janet gave her age as 26. This was a "Free Church" marriage.12

Thomas Cray (of Kettle, Fife)
Male, CreeID#2587, (c 1658? - )
Charts | Branch 10c. The Fife and Devon branch |
The line of Thomas Cray of Kettle parish in the County of Fife was researched in the 1970s and 1980s by the late Brigadier G Hilary Cree. He was much indebted to a distant relative, the late Margaret McDougall, who had commisioned a professional genealogist, who traced the line back to William Cree, cordiner of Kettle. Brigadier Cree had written substantial drafts of the results, intending publication, when he lost his sight. With his encouragement Mike Spathaky wrote up the results and they were published in 1991 by the Cree Family History Society in a booklet, The Cree Families of Fife and Devon. This is now available for free download from the Archives section of this Cree Surname web site.1
Thomas Cray (of Kettle, Fife) was born c 1658?. This is estimated from the date of birth of his assumed son William in 1679. But that in turn is an estimate based on William's reported age at death of 89. There could be a wide margin or error here.
Y-DNA tests on the descendants of Thomas Cray (of Kettle, Fife) and Alexander Crie show that they are closely related. The probability that they are brothers is more than 50%.2
Thomas Cray (of Kettle, Fife) married an unknown person c 1677?.
His son William Cree was born in 1679 or 1680 in Kettle, Fife, Scotland.3
His son Thomas Cree was baptised on 19 August 1694 in Kettle, Fife.4
