During recent years I have come to realise that this Cree One-Name Study web site was starting to become, not just the face of the one-name study but the study itself. I now believe that it can be the study in the sense that if I were to suddenly pass on, and all my family history paperwork were to be destroyed, the web site could contain enough material for the one-name study to survive. It was this realisation that led me to coin the phrase The web site is the one-name study that you see above the left-hand menu of every page. The aim it expresses has very largely been realised in the Cree One-Name Study.

While the web site exists on the web server of a reputable hosting company, it is pretty safe. I have little doubt that it would be deleted as soon as payments stop. This little sub-section of the Cree One-Name Study web site (consisting of the five pages listed on the left under The Future) is concerned with a proposal that I have made to the Guild of One-Name Studies to set up a scheme by which the Cree One-Name Study web site, and others like it, will survive indefinitely.

The background is an article, The web site is the one-name study, which I wrote a little while ago and which I have submitted for possible publication in the Journal of One-Name Studies. So I suggest you start with that...
