Weavers in Perth

Thomas Crie was Deacon of the Weaver Incorporation in Perth, and married Margaret Donaldson in 1595. As a widow she was the probable host to James Graham, Marquis of Montrose, when he dined in Perth after the Battle of Tibbermore in 1644. Their two known sons, Patrick and Henrie Crie, both became Deacons of the Perth Weavers. The genealogy becomes uncertain in the fourth generation but it seems that a John Cree (married Marjory Lean, married 1704, Abernethy) was of this line. Two of his sons, John and William Cree may be those who turn up in distant places.

A number of Cree families in Errol and Kilspindie may trace back as early as Andrew Cree who died 1685 at Errol. He may be of the Weavers in Perth line and his Cree descendancy seems to continue until Andrew Cree (1809-1851) in Calton, Edinburgh.
