His father Capt. Robert Scott Cree died on 14 November 1917 in Gaza, Palestine.4

In 1920 Lieutenant Commander Thomas Scott Cree DSC RANVR and Zara Carvick Webster moved from Glasgow and settled at Australia.5 Lieutenant Commander Thomas Scott Cree DSC RANVR was educated from 1926 to 1927 at Slade School, Warwick, Queensland, Australia.6 He was educated from 1928 to 1932 at Geelong Grammar School, Geelong, Victoria, Australia. (The dates are estimated.)7 He was educated at Jesus College, Cambridge, England.7

He was a world class rower. In 1935 he partnered David Burnford to win the Silver Goblets at Henley Royal Regatta. In 1936 he was a member of the winning Cambridge eight in the Boat Race. Later in the year he partnered Burnford to represent Great Britain in the coxless pairs at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin where they reached the semi-final stage. He again rowed for Cambridge in the 1937 Boat Race when Oxford won.8 He began military service on 2 September 1939.

He was a member of the Royal Australian Navy.3

Lieutenant Commander Thomas Scott Cree DSC RANVR served on HMAS Stuart, was mentioned in despatches in 1940 and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross in 1941.9,10 He and Dorothy Jean Stewart Fraser were engaged on 7 December 1942.11

Lieutenant Commander Thomas Scott Cree DSC RANVR married Dorothy Jean Stewart Fraser, daughter of Sir Colin Fraser and Mary Helen MacNamara, on 20 February 1943 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.12 Lieutenant Commander Thomas Scott Cree DSC RANVR ended military service on 8 April 1946 in Cerberus Navy Office, Victoria, Australia. HMAS Cerberus is the Royal Australian Navy's primary training establishment and is located adjacent to Crib Point on the Mornington Peninsula, south of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. His next of kin was noted as Dorothy.3

His daughter Gillian Mary Cree was born in 1947 in Australia.13
