Margarett White

Female, CreeID#9689, (1 May 1715 - 28 November 1782)
Margarett White was baptised on 1 May 1715 in Cramond, Midlothian, Scotland. There were two girls baptised as Margaret White by dufferent couples but this date fits the description of Meg White in the poem mentioned below.1 She was the daughter of James White and Margaret Crie.

Margarett White married John Grinzlay on 11 July 1740 in Cramond, Midlothian.2

Margarett White was a change-keeper or hostelry-keeper in Cramond, Midlothian. It was also implied in a poem written as an epitaph that she was a bawdy-house keeper.3

Margarett White died on 28 November 1782.4

Alexander Cree

Male, CreeID#9698
ChartsBranch 10b. The Forteviot branch
It has been suggested that Alexander Cree, progenitor of the Forteviot line, may be the same person as Alexander Crie from Perth, Scotland. Alexander Cree lived at Cala-fountain, which is little more than 2 km from the centre of Perth. The strong prevalence of the name Alexander in both lines supports this suggestion.

Y-DNA tests on the descendants of Alexander Cree and Thomas Cray (of Kettle, Fife) show that they are closely related. The probability that they are brothers is more than 50%.1

His son Alexander Crie was born c 1690?

His son Thomas Crie was baptised on 17 December 1699 in Forgandenny, Perthshire, Scotland.2

On 17 December 1699 Alexander Cree was living in Cala-fountain, Forteviot, Perthshire, Scotland, along with Thomas Crie. They were father and new-born son. Callafountain is shown on the current 1:25000 scale OS map at Grid Ref 102208 with Hilton Hill a few hundred metres to its NW. It is now in Forgandenny parish but was formerly a detached part of Forteviot parish. Groome's Gazetteer of Scotland says, under Forgandenny, "In 1891 the Boundary Commissioners transferred to Forgandenny parish the Hilton detached part." Under Forteviot, Groome mentions, "the Hilton section, immediately W of Craigend village, and 2 miles ENE of the main body [of Forteviot...]" What is important for us if that this Hilton portion is N of the River Earn with no crossing place for some distance and so in effect detached from both Forteviot and Forgandenny. It is in fact just along the road from Aberdalgie parish.2

His son John Cree was baptised on 10 February 1706 in Aberdalgie, Perthshire, Scotland.3
