Joseph Cree

Joseph Cree was born in November 1894 in Craigie, Majorca, Victoria, Australia.1 He was the son of Samuel Talbot Cree and Elizabeth Wright. Joseph Cree began military service on 17 July 1915 in Majorca, Victoria, Australia. He joined the "10/23 Reinforcements - 23 Batn." of the Australian Imperial Force on 3 August 1915.2

Joseph Cree was mentioned in an article in the Maryborough and Dunolly Advertiser on 23 July 1915 as a resident of the area who had offered himself as a recruit.3 He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 12 December 1916 in France.4

Joseph Cree died on 3 May 1917 in France. He was reported injured in action, then missing in action. He was later recorded as killed in action.

Isaac Johnston was a lint, woollen and cotton weaver aged 75 while his wife Charlotte was 59. Their daughter Margaret Johnston, 30, was a lint and jute weaver. Her son Isaac Cree was 5 and a scholar.3

His father James Wighton Cree died on 22 August 1878 in Airlie Street, Alyth, Perthshire, Scotland.4,5

Probate of Sophia Stewart Cree's will was granted to Very Rev Andrew Nisbett Bogle DD on 28 March 1913 in London, England.3 In 1930 Very Rev Andrew Nisbett Bogle DD was appointed as Moderator of the Church of Scotland.4

Edith Cree, aged 23, and Nellie Cree, 21, were described as boaders and both were machinists. They were in fact Fanny's sisters.7
