Thomas Cree was also known as Thomas Creigh. He was born in 1829 or 1830 in North Shields, Northumberland, England.^1,2 He was the son of Thomas Creigh and Ann Cree (married name).

On 7 June 1841 Thomas Cree was living in the household of Thomas Creigh and Ann Cree (married name) in West Row, Seaton Deaval, Earsdon, Northumberland, England, along with Israel Creigh, William Cree, Benjamin Creigh and Joseph Cree. Thomas (shown here as Cree) was an agricultural labourer aged 50 and Ann was 45. Their sons were all coalminers except Joseph (who was aged 8.)¹

At the same address, though in a different household, were Thomas Calder, 53, master of a steam tug, and his wife Catherine, 52. Is this an error for James and Catharine Calder, Mary's parents?⁸

On 3 April 1881 Thomas Cree and Mary Calder were living in 13 Broderick Terrace, Westoe, South Shields, County Durham, England, along with Thomas Cree. Thomas was now a provision dealer.¹³

On 5 April 1891 Thomas Cree was living in 60 Ash Street, Benwell, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England. Thomas was now aged 61 and was a watchman at a shipyard. Mary was 57 and their son Thomas was a painter aged 21.¹⁴

On 31 March 1901 Thomas Cree and Mary Calder were living in 1 Gardner Street, Elswick, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England. Thomas was now 71 and a storekeeper at a shipyard. Mary was 67.¹⁵

On 7 April 1861 Isabella Moore and Israel Creigh were living in Formans Run, Seaton Deleval, Northumberland, England, along with Frances Moore (married name). Israel was now 37 and still a coalminer. Isabella was 38 and her mother Frances was 82.³

On 2 April 1911 Adam Cree and Dinah Raine were living in Stones End, Evenwood, County Durham, England, along with Nora Cox and Robert Cox. Adam was aged 30 and a miner (coal hewer). His wife Dinah Cree was aged 37. Ivy was aged 2, Norah 8 and Robert 5.⁶ Adam Cree was a soldier in World War 1.⁷

On 30 March 1851 Dorothy Jane Cree was living in the household of Thomas Crie and Dorothy Wigham in 24 Richmond Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England, along with Sarah Adams Cree and Thomas Cree. Thomas was aged 36 and a ship broker and Dorothy was 34. Sarah was 12, Thomas 10 and Dorothy 4.²
