The work of a former principal art teacher at Dunbar Grammar School is currently on show in Edinburgh.
Alexander Cree worked in the town from 1963, retiring from his job in 1987.
An exhibition of his paintings, one of which is pictured left, will run at the Open Eye Gallery, 34 Abercromby Place, Edinburgh, east of Heriot Row, until Tuesday, November 3.
Cree, who is now 80, was born in Dunfermline in 1929 and studied at Edinburgh Colleage of Art from 1946 to 1950. He gained a Diploma in Drawing and Painting and was awarded The Andrew Grant Post Graduate Scholarship. He achieved further scholarship and travelled to France, Spain, Italy and Holland. He painted in Casque-sur-Mer and Cadaques with Francis Curran. Many pictures from this period feature in the display.
Cree had a one man show at the Lyceum Club Gallery in 1957 and has exhibited in a range of group exhibitions in Scottish galleries and with The Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour.
His work has found its way into private collections in this country, Sweden, the USA, Israel, Japan and Borneo. The Nuffield Foundation and The Scottish Arts Council have also bought his work.
