William Cree

William Cree married Frederica Bowe in 1857? In Alexandria, Egypt. This data seems less reliable than the Malta marriage in 1863, especially since Frderica was only 15.2

In 1862 William Cree was living in Malta.3

His father Daniel Cree died on 17 August 1862 in Shuttle Row, Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland.4,5 William Cree was an engineer in February 1863 in Malta.3

William Cree married Frederica Bowe on 10 February 1863 in Malta. Much of the information about the descendants of William and Frederica Cree has been provided by A E (Fred) Cree of Hawkcombe, Porlock, Somerset.6

His mother Elizabeth McGregor died in 1865 in Blantyre, Lanarkshire.7

His daughter Elizabeth Cree was born on 22 May 1866 in Cairo, Egypt.8

His son Frederick William Cree was born on 7 February 1869 in Glasgow, Scotland.9

His son James Charles Cree was born on 27 April 1876 in Glasgow.10

His son Albert Edward Cree was born on 30 June 1878 in Glasgow.10 On 17 April 1889 in Egypt William Cree was an engine fitter in Egypt.11

William Cree was a civil engineer.12

William Cree died on 22 December 1899 in Alexandria. He was buried the same day.2

John Cree

On 20 December 1780, John Cree was also known as John Crie. He was baptised on 7 January 1781 in Perth, Scotland. He was the son of David Cree and Jean Hutchison.

John Cree was a member of the Royal Perthshire Volunteers (2nd Regiment, 1st Brigade). in 1803 in Perth.2 He and Elspith Glas were partners in 1803. It is perhaps worth noting that their "natural son" John Crie was not baptised until 1806, after John had married Margaret Young. Is it possible that Elspith Glas died in childbirth?3

John Cree was a weaver in 1804 in Pomarium [Street], Perth, Scotland.4

His son John Crie was born on 16 April 1804 in Perth.5,6

John Cree married Margaret Young, daughter of Robert Young, on 25 April 1804 in Perth. This was just nine days after John's "natural son" (by Elspit Glass) was born. Margaret Young was "residing in Dundee."7

John Cree was very influential in the Chartist movement in Perth and on 18 June 1839 chaired a public meeting on one of the Inches held by the Perth Chartist Association with the Birmingham Political Union. The theme of the meting was universal male suffrage.17

C 1841 John Cree was living in Cross Street, South Side, Perth, Scotland. John was then a weaver.18

John Cree represented Perth at national meetings such as the the Great Meeting of Scottish Delegates, 14-16 August 1839 and the Scottish Chartist Convention of January 1842.19,20

John Cree was a weaver between 1843 and 1844 in Leonard Street, Perth, Scotland.21

His wife Margaret Young died on 22 May 1847 in Leonard Street, Perth.22

John Cree was a coal merchant in 1854.23 He and Margaret Young were interred in Greyfriars Burying Ground, Perth, Scotland. The grave position is given as Block B, grave 110 in Mitchell. Agnes Cree (died 27 February 1906) is also buried there.24

His daughter Margaret Cree died on 7 August 1854 in Pomarium, Perth, Scotland.25
