Joseph Johnson was born c August 1858 in Newark Reg Dist, Nottinghamshire, England.1,2 He was the son of Joseph Johnson.
In December 1880 Joseph Johnson was living in 78 Northgate, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England.3
Joseph Johnson married Charlotte Cree, daughter of John Cree and Thirza Clapham, on 26 December 1880 in the Independent Chapel, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England. The certificate gives Charlotte's age as 20 and Joseph's as 22. Her father's name was recorded as Frank Cree, labourer (not shown as deceased). Joseph's was shown as a tailor. They were to have eleven daughters.
An anonymous email dated 30 January 2011 stated, "Thirza Cree's maiden name was Clapham. She was a widow when she married John Cree 10/6/1855 [6 Oct] and her last name at that time was Pressgrave."
P Schatz wrote, "I was in touch a number of years ago (1984) with June Moffat who was the daughter of Florence Campbell (Cree-Johnson). She named the Johnson children as follows (married names) Victoria Strangways, Elsie Ashley, Florence Campbell, Nell Tracy, Ethel Carson, Edith White, Ann J Rogers, Agnes Sinclair and a Charlotte but no last name... As this list is only for 9 children rather than 11, I can only assume that two must have passed away."4,5,6
On 3 April 1881 Joseph Johnson and Charlotte Cree were living in 29 Auckland St, Radford, Nottinghamshire, England. Their ages were both given as 20 but these were normally rounded down.7
