By co-incidence I found this on a bulletin board on the web from someone signing as Liz

"I left Glasgow 30 years ago but still class it as home although I have very few family left there now. Glasgow still holds dear in my heart and the memories of the place and people will never leave me. I was born 1962 in Keyden St Kinning Park and was brought up by my granny Connelly. We later moved in '69 to new flats in Penilee. I remember the flats being like luxury to my grannie, having an inside bathroom and toilet instead of sharing the toilet with other families in the close... A lot of the neighbours in these flats were all from the slums that were being demolished and I still remember the day we went to be given keys. Everyone was there outside a portacabin whilst the keys were being distrubited. Next thing lots of keys were being changed hands as the new tenants were swapping their flats with each other so they could be next to their old neighbours."14

[S16] Personal communication, Email from Kerry Raymond, 24 May 2010, "Sophia and Elizabeth were the daughters of a Chinese shepherd, whose Chinese name was Tansee and called himself John Tansee, and a German woman Johanna Klinger... There was intense anti-Chinese sentiment in Australia and so Chinese families often tried to cover up their Chinese origins. Tansee took to calling himself John Daniels and the children seem to have been registered almost randomly as either Daniels and Tansee (both parents were illiterate, so probably they didn’t know what was being written down anyway). Elizabeth was registered as a Tansee, hence my use of that name. Elizabeth’s parents died at Leyburn in an epidemic in 1871 when she was a young child, and probably Elizabeth did not admit to others (possibly including her husband and children) of her part-Chinese origins and would have used the name Daniels in her marriage etc for that reason. The informant on her death certificate would never have known her parents personally (indeed, Elizabeth herself would have had little or no memory of them), so the information there is probably very unreliable and probably just reflected what Elizabeth told her family."
