John Drable was baptised on 23 December 1717 in Bolsover, Derbyshire, England.1 He was the son of John Drable and Martha Godley.
John Drable married Mary Cree, daughter of James Cree and Elizabeth Whitehead, on 19 May 1741 in the church of St Mary, Sutton cum Duckmanton, Derbyshire, England. They may have acquired a Cree croft at Oxcroft. A descendant, Robert Cree (or rather his widow) was paying rent there in 1829 and Robert's son George was recorded as a farmer there in the 1841 Census aged 50, with his wife Elizabeth and five chidren aged 2 to 20. The 1861 Census described him as a cottager of 14 acres and publican. I would not have thought a hamlet of 8 or 9 households would support a public house and I have found no evidence of one either there in Oxcroft, or in the neghbouring small communities of Stanfree, Shttlewood and Woodhouse.2
His daughter Ann Drable was baptised on 26 May 1742 in Bolsover, Derbyshire.3
His daughter Elizabeth Drable was baptised on 21 August 1752 in Clowne, Derbyshire, England; "of Oxcroft."4

James Cree
Male, CreeID#30, (August 1752 - after 10 August 1822)
Charts | Line 1. The Bolsover line Mini-chart 1 Bolsover Mini-chart 30 Sutton cum Duckmanton |
James Cree was born in August 1752 in Oxcroft, Bolsover, Derbyshire, England. He was the son of James Cree and Mary Cree (married name). James Cree was baptised on 25 August 1752 in Clowne, Derbyshire, England. James and Mary were "of the parish of Oxcroft."1
James Cree married Mary Fearn, daughter of William Fearn and Catherine Clark, on 28 July 1777 in the church of St Mary, Sutton cum Duckmanton, Derbyshire, England. Both were of this parish. James signed with his mark and Mary with her name: "Mary Fearn now Mary Cree". A Banns Certificate shows that banns were read on 13, 20 and 27 July 1777.
Mary Fearn may provide the link with Beeley which could relate to some mysteries relating to their son John Cree. First, where did James and Mary live from their marriage in 1777 until 1788 during which time three children were born? Second, why did their son John turn up in Beeley in 1813?
Entries in the Beeley parish register record two Fern burials: "23 Apr 1767 Mrs FERN widow of late Rev Mr FERN" and "27 Dec 1763 Hannah FERN widow Beeley." This seems to suggest that the Fern (or Fearn) family were established at Beeley. A further burial of Charles Fearn aged 70 in 1894 confirms the long-term connection of the Fearns with Beeley.
Where James Cree and Mary Fearn were living between August 1777 and June 1788 is a mystery despite thorough searches of all parish registers within many miles of Bolsover.
His daughter Mary Cree was baptised on 29 June 1788 in Sutton cum Duckmanton, Derbyshire, England.1
His son Robert Cree was baptised on 25 December 1791 in Sutton cum Duckmanton, Derbyshire.1
His daughter Ann Cree was born c 1793?
His son Joseph Cree was baptised on 28 June 1795 in Sutton cum Duckmanton, Derbyshire.1
C 1810? James Cree was living in Hockley, Bolsover, Derbyshire, England. James Cree and Christopher Hinde were former occupiers of a dwelling house mentioned in the Manor Court Record in 1824. It is uncertain which James Cree is referred to.2
James Cree died after 10 August 1822. The description "Wife" rather than "Widow" implies that James was still alive.3
